RIP US Senator Edward Kennedy, who has passed away at the age of 77 after a long battle with a brain tumour.
His public backing of Barack Obama in his course to becomming US President was seen as a turning point in Obama’s success.
Upon taking up his Senate seat at the age of thirty, he became the youngest member of the Chamber. He went on to serve nine terms championing issues such as healthcare reform, which he continued to advocate in the current US debate.
He was also a staunch opponent of the George W. Bush regime and criticised the administration for leading the US into an illegal war.
