Brent Council’s Lib Dem led administration has launched an ‘Improvement and Efficiency Action Plan 2010-2014’ to address the Council’s deteriorating performance. Work by external consultants Price Waterhouse Coopers shows that 62% of Brent’s performance indicators are below average and 38% are in the lowest quartile. The proportion of Brent Council’s own targets met has fallen from 52% in 2007-08 to 46% in 2008-09 and 57% of Local Area Agreement priorities are below average with 39% in the lowest quartile.
Labour has long claimed that the progress made under the last Labour administration, which lost office in 2006, has stalled. The new programme proves that progress has gone into reverse.
Brent Labour Group’s Deputy Leader, Cllr Muhammed Butt, said:
“The Council now admits that performance is deteriorating and the new strategy is effectively an admission that the council is failing even to achieve its own targets”.
