London Council political map (Source: London Bulletin issue 64 July / August 2010)

Interesting fact page entitled ‘London at a glance’, from a London Council publication I received in the post this week.

All of London’s 1,861 Council seats were up for election in May 2010. London’s local results bucked the national trend with the number of Labour Councillors increasing from 685 in 2006 to 878in 2010. The number of Tory Councillors fell from 785 to 715 and Lib Dems saw their share of London Councillors decline from 317 to 245.

At an election where nationally, there was expected to be an increased emergence of independent candidates, in terms of London Council seats, the numbers dropped from 74 down to 23.
