Back To Your Rootz – Know Yourself

“Strength in Numbers is more than a project, a group or a committee, we are a social movement, a collection of Brent’s Finest minds who are fueled by their passion to create a better environment”

We believe young people can and do make a positive difference in the community. Ultimately, we hope to make a positive contribution to society and turn aspirations into realities”

Samarah aged 17 years old

Event details

This year in celebration of Black History Month and in recognition of The Haiti earthquake we are bringing you the 2nd edition of BACK TO YOUR ROOTZ – “Know Yourself.” This unique and powerful showcase will give young people the opportunity to celebrate and represent their African or Caribbean roots, instead of representing their postcode or estate. We feel passionately about how we are portrayed by the media so this is also a chance for us to reverse the negativity by showcasing our unity, heritage and stories.

This year’s event is going to be bigger and better with live performances of street dance, African dance, soulful singing, MC’ing, Rapping, poetry, inspirational speakers, a fashion show and much more.

Through our efforts we hope to inspire the community (young and old) and highlight the importance of history and its relevance in today’s society.

By way of competitions, raffles, freebies, refreshments and traditional food it is hoped that we can raise a substantial amount of funds to help the survivors in Haiti. We have teamed up with United Haitians in the UK (UHUK) as they are currently coordinating relief efforts here in the UK and will be sending essentials to Haiti.

The event will take place on Thursday the 28th October 2010, between 6:00-10:00pm at Bridge Park Leisure Complex, Brentfield, Harrow Road NW10 0RG
