Absolutely shocking behaviour has been exemplified by the Government as they have released the Impact Assessment for the Disability Living Allowance reforms.

The Government fails to understand Disability Discrimination. I am utterly outraged and disappointed with the claim that “DLA is widely perceived to be an out of work benefit and receiving DLA in itself appears to reduce the likelihood of being in employment, even after allowing for the impact of health conditions”.
This totally ignores the issue of disability discrimination and sweeps it under the carpet. It is frankly being overlooked and not even considered in the equation as has been the case throughout these benefit reforms.
DLA is a non-means tested benefit that people can claim regardless of whether they work or not to recognise the extra costs that people face because of an impairment. Attitudes towards disabled people from employers play a more significant role in employment rates of disabled people than being a claimant of DLA. To claim that the fact that people have DLA and that this can be a barrier to work is simply wrong.
