Pilot on Wembley Event Day parking enforcement agreed

Last night, Brent Labour Councillors voted to pilot a change in the way that Wembley Event Day Parking is enforced. The change moves away from the system implemented by the Liberal Democrats where there is a blanket 8am to midnight parking restriction around the Wembley Stadium Event Day zone when there are events at the national landmark stadium.

From 1st May 2014, up until the end of October 2014, we will pilot only sending enforcement officers out 3 hours before the Wembley Stadium event and up to 3 hours after an event.

It is difficult to justify having such a blanket tough enforcement regime from 8am if an event is at 8pm. Likewise, if a Saturday afternoon match finishes at 6pm, it makes no sense to continue enforcing parking restrictions up to midnight.

The change gives a better offer to residents and means that residents living around the stadium are still protected from the negative parking effects of events that attract around 90,000 spectators.
