The Lib Dem Councillor who has been living in Brighton since 2011 has finally resigned.
The Lib Dems have yet to apologise to the people of Brent and have an arrangement where his allowance has gone to the Brent Liberal Democrats, funding things like their party political leaflets while his attendance to Council meetings has been woeful and engagement with residents and local police zilch LINK
The Lib Dems have shown nothing but contempt for the residents of Dudden Hill – The local Brent Lib Dem Nick Clegg sorry moment has yet to come.
The Liberal Democrats have totally lost the plot on the whole Cllr David Clues situation. The Willesden and Brent Times are now reporting that the Councillor who has been living in Brighton since December 2011 will step down in November so that his post can be held with the next set of elections – LINK
The next elections will be in May 2014.
On Dispatches, it was revealed by Cllr Clues that his allowances have been channelled to the Brent Liberal Democrats.
The Lib Dems cry about election costs to the taxpayer but in 2012, we called for him to resign and have the elections held on the same day as the May London 2012 elections – LINK
Instead, the Lib Dems chose to do nothing and accept this standard of Councillor commitment.
I can reveal that the whip has also failed to act with no response received to date on the email pictured below.
What a load of yellow mess. The Lib Dems should publicly apologise for this shameful situation.
An article reporting the that Brent Liberal Democrat Councillor has been living in Brighton since December 2011 in the Argus local paper in Brighton has attracted a flurry of comments – LINK
Some of which include;
“Maybe he should change his name to the Rev Clueless”
“Party: Liberal Democrats”
“sadly these days its all at the end about snouts in the trough. its the claiming of allowances that give the game away, it would be intresting to hear what next sundays sermon is about, avarice or self delusion spring to mind”
“and we’re supposed to look up to religious leaders for setting high moral standards?”
A comment in his defence said,
“in the Despatches episode he made it clear that the allowance goes back to the Lib Dems – not to him personally.”
The Lib Dems have shown terrible leadership on this issue and have totally failed to grasp the seriousness of this omnishambles.
The Willesden and Brent Times is reporting that a whopping seven out of their 16 Councillors plan to step down at the next local elections – LINK
The Party locally looks to be in complete meltdown as the Independent reported in their article titled “Lib Dems suffer plunge in party membership” (LINK) that the largest drop in membership of the Liberal Democrats came in Brent where they “saw 42 per cent of activists quit in the space of 12 months.”
The Times article also says that my Co Councillor of the Liberal Democrats, David Clues, who has been living in Brighton since December 2011 will not be putting himself up for election in 2014 in Brent. He still refuses to resign despite this scandal!
In an extraordinary leaflet delivered to residents in Brent today, Brent Central Liberal Democrat MP Sarah Teather really insults the intelligence of the people of Brent.
The leaflet in newspaper format is produced by the Liberal Democrats and is called Brent News. The imprint is barely visible. On the front page of the leaflet, the main story attacks Mayor of London Boris Johnson for the proposed Police Station closures at Harlesden and Willesden. This is despite the fact that Sarah Teather voted to cut police numbers LINK
In addition, it is claimed that “Brent News is fully behind Sarah’s campaign to save our stations”. Wait a minute….. a Sarah Teather publication is behind Sarah Teather’s campaign????
Does Sarah Teather think that people in Brent are stupid and would think this is a Brent non-party political neutral publication?
The Liberal Democrat published ‘Brent News’ also claims to have an exclusive interview with Sarah Teather MP.
This is from the same party that produced this LINK
Expect more gutter politics leaflets from the Brent Liberal Democrats over the next two years as they aim to hold on to their seats over the next two years.
Over the last year and a half, our under-resourced Police have been working hard to with the local Council to tackle anti-social behaviour issues that take place at the Neasden Shopping Centre.
Misbehaviour of schoolchildren, street drinking and the more recent appearance of gangs in the area culminated in Labour Councillors, the police and residents coming together deciding to escalate the response to the situation.
Enforcement will run until the 1st of September 2013.
This to me also highlights the importance of Ward Panel meetings because the decision has been made in collaboration with local residents, the Police and the Council. The next Ward Panel meeting is on Wednesday 6th March 2013 and takes place at the College of North West London (Willesden Campus) at 7pm.
It surprises me that given the importance of this meeting, that in my time as Dudden Hill Councillor, ‘local’ Liberal Democrat Councillor David Clues has NEVER attended a Ward Panel meeting. In fact, I believe he has NEVER met a single member of the local police team.
It is a local scandal that he did not resign his seat in May 2012 so that a by-election could be held at the same time as the Mayoral vote to minimise taxpayer election costs after he moved to Brighton in December 2011.
An interesting front page of the Independent today. It confirms what many have been saying all along. That this Tory Liberal Government are using specific examples and making out as if this is the norm. As if everyone on benefits is workshy and sleeping happily in the home with their curtains drawn while people get up early to go to work in dark hours of the morning.
Indeed this article by Ramesh Patel, a Conservative himself, calls on David Cameron to apologise for his deficit arguments – LINK. He even refers to the Nazi tactic at the end of his article pushed by Joseph Goebbels, that if you repeat a lie over and over, people start believing it, no matter how ridiculous it is – LINK.
In Brent, most people affected by the benefit changes are in low paid work. The Independent article (available online – LINK) says that two thirds of those affected by the cap are in work.
It’s sad that people are believing these Tory Liberal distortions. The article says that polling reveals three in five believe the system has created a culture of dependency. Brent Liberal Democrat leader Cllr Paul Lorber talked of this culture of dependency at the last Full Council meeting and has done so before, so even a senior Brent Lib Democrat is explicitly using this line of attack.
What we need is a better understanding on the lives affected by these changes. The atmosphere and toxicity that currently exists in society today in the UK towards people who receive benefits, not helped by Government and some parts of the media, is detriment to a peaceful society.
This picture of Sarah Teather’s old office found on the Political Scrapbook’s website ironically features a red traffic light with a no left turn symbol outside the now empty office. In the words of Alanis Morissette, “Isn’t it Ironic?”
The extract below is from the official minutes of the July 2012 Brent Council meeting. The last line really shows that the Brent Liberal Democrat Leader Paul Lorber has a twisted view of A&E services and the value it provides to people.
The local paper’s website is once again reporting on the fact that Lib Dem Councillor for Dudden Hill Ward David Clues is living in Brighton and is inaccessible to local residents. You can read the article here – LINK
Calling a by-election is totally out of our hands so Dudden Hill Labour will continue to work hard for our residents as we have been doing since even before we had elected Councillors in the ward.
