Lib Dems show nothing but contempt for Dudden Hill residents over David Clues saga

The Lib Dem Councillor who has been living in Brighton since 2011 has finally resigned.

The Lib Dems have yet to apologise to the people of Brent and have an arrangement where his allowance has gone to the Brent Liberal Democrats, funding things like their party political leaflets while his attendance to Council meetings has been woeful and engagement with residents and local police zilch LINK

The Lib Dems have shown nothing but contempt for the residents of Dudden Hill – The local Brent Lib Dem Nick Clegg sorry moment has yet to come.

When is a resignation not a resignation? When it’s a Brent Lib Dem resignation

The Liberal Democrats have totally lost the plot on the whole Cllr David Clues situation. The Willesden and Brent Times are now reporting that the Councillor who has been living in Brighton since December 2011 will step down in November so that his post can be held with the next set of elections  – LINK

The next elections will be in May 2014.

On Dispatches, it was revealed by Cllr Clues that his allowances have been channelled to the Brent Liberal Democrats.

The Lib Dems cry about election costs to the taxpayer but in 2012, we called for him to resign and have the elections held on the same day as the May London 2012 elections – LINK

Instead, the Lib Dems chose to do nothing and accept this standard of Councillor commitment.

I can reveal that the whip has also failed to act with no response received to date on the email pictured below.

What a load of yellow mess. The Lib Dems should publicly apologise for this shameful situation.

An article reporting the that Brent Liberal Democrat Councillor has been living in Brighton since December 2011 in the Argus local paper in Brighton has attracted a flurry of comments – LINK

Some of which include;

“Maybe he should change his name to the Rev Clueless”

“Party: Liberal Democrats”

“sadly these days its all at the end about snouts in the trough. its the claiming of allowances that give the game away, it would be intresting to hear what next sundays sermon is about, avarice or self delusion spring to mind”

“and we’re supposed to look up to religious leaders for setting high moral standards?”

A comment in his defence said,

“in the Despatches episode he made it clear that the allowance goes back to the Lib Dems – not to him personally.”

The Lib Dems have shown terrible leadership on this issue and have totally failed to grasp the seriousness of this omnishambles.

Brent Liberal Democrat Meltdown

bird downThe Willesden and Brent Times is reporting that a whopping seven out of their 16 Councillors plan to step down at the next local elections – LINK

The Party locally looks to be in complete meltdown as the Independent reported  in their article titled “Lib Dems suffer plunge in party membership” (LINK) that the largest drop in membership of the Liberal Democrats came in Brent where they “saw 42 per cent of activists quit in the space of 12 months.”

The Times article also says that my Co Councillor of the Liberal Democrats, David Clues, who has been living in Brighton since December 2011 will not be putting himself up for election in 2014 in Brent. He still refuses to resign despite this scandal!

Dispersal Zone implemented around the Neasden Shopping Centre area

Over the last year and a half, our under-resourced Police have been working hard to with the local Council to tackle anti-social behaviour issues that take place at the Neasden Shopping Centre.

Misbehaviour of schoolchildren, street drinking and the more recent appearance of gangs in the area culminated in Labour Councillors, the police and residents coming together deciding to escalate the response to the situation.

Police will have powers to split groups up in the area identified in the linked map – Neasden dispersal zone

Enforcement will run until the 1st of September 2013.

This to me also highlights the importance of Ward Panel meetings because the decision has been made in collaboration with local residents, the Police and the Council. The next Ward Panel meeting is on Wednesday 6th March 2013 and takes place at the College of North West London (Willesden Campus) at 7pm.

It surprises me that given the importance of this meeting, that in my time as Dudden Hill Councillor, ‘local’ Liberal Democrat Councillor David Clues has NEVER attended a Ward Panel meeting. In fact, I believe he has NEVER met a single member of the local police team.

It is a local scandal that he did not resign his seat in May 2012 so that a by-election could be held at the same time as the Mayoral vote to minimise taxpayer election costs after he moved to Brighton in December 2011.

My 2013/14 Budget speech at Full Council

I didn’t really plan a speech but contributions from the Tories and Lib Dems got me inspired to stand up at the Budget setting meeting on Monday. Here is what I said;

“in 2013, the horizon is very different for disabled people.

Cllr Kansagra [Leader of the Brent Conservative Party] said in his speech that vulnerable people are protected in changes made by Government….. but that’s as true as a Lib Dem Focus leaflet I received a couple of weeks ago that said that David Clues was my ‘local’ Councillor when he’s living in Brighton.

What about Disability Living Allowance, where by the Government’s own admission, 200,000 will lose out on their disability benefits?

By the Government’s own admission, thousands will lose out on Carer’s Allowance because of the way that benefits interact with eachother.

This Budget supports carers with the introduction of a new Carer’s Hub. Mr Mayor, there are 23,000 Carers in Brent. People providing care to their loved ones in ways that we cannot even imagine. We will create a single access point for carers in Brent.

What about Employment Support Allowance? Disabled people who have worked all their lives and find themselves in adversity will have their benefits slashed if they have not found a job in 12 months

And what about the Bedroom Tax? Couples where one individual has to sleep in a hospital bed and the couple cannot share a room will be penalised for having an “extra” bedroom.

This Budget continues to offer hope and support to the Voluntary Sector – to the Brent CAB, who will often be the first point of call for Brent people affected by these changes.

Mr Mayor, Labour is the Party that offers hope to people in Brent at a time when examples are taken out of context and are out of the norm and are being used to soften the public mood for benefit changes that are damaging the lives of disabled people.

Mr Mayor, given the Lib Dem and Tory record in Government, I dread to think what they would do to services valued by the most vulnerable if god forbid the Lib Dems & Tories had control at this Town Hall again – and it’s with this I end my statement and support this Budget and it’s amendments.”

Snowy Postcard to Cllr David Clues

While Dudden Hill is covered in snow, I thought I would take this opportunity to remind Liberal Democrat Councillor for the ward about the area he ‘represents’.

Last night, the Liberal Democrat Councillor yet again failed to turn up to the Full Council meeting. However, I understand the difficulties in travelling to Brent from Brighton in this difficult weather. I suppose the Liberal Democrats aren’t the only fluffy substance around that cause the country to grind to a halt.

Pressure continues to pile on Dudden Hill Lib Dem Cllr

We’ve had consecutive weeks of people writing in the the local paper to express their dismay at the fact that Dudden Hill Liberal Democrat Councillor David Clues has been living in Brighton for over a year now. Last week’s letter in the local press poses some interesting questions over the Reverand’s move. He claimed that he was transferred by the Church but Helen Brown’s letter seems to suggest there there is a more competitive recruitment process and so the Lib Dem may have been more proactive in his move to Brighton and told a different story to people in Brent.

Calls for Brent Lib Dem Councillor who lives in Brighton to resign (again!)

The local paper’s website is once again reporting on the fact that Lib Dem Councillor for Dudden Hill Ward David Clues is living in Brighton and is inaccessible to local residents. You can read the article here – LINK

Calling a by-election is totally out of our hands so Dudden Hill Labour will continue to work hard for our residents as we have been doing since even before we had elected Councillors in the ward.

MISSING: Brent Liberal Democrats!

The Brent Liberal Democrats are all over the place…. literally!

It’s reported in the Willesden and Brent Times that Liberal Democrat Councillor for Willesden Green Ward Gavin Sneddon has moved out of Brent.

Personally, I do not see an issue with his move so much, as he has to be fair, been attending meetings, area forums etc in Brent. He is reported to be living in Barnet, which isn’t actually far away from Brent.

On the other hand, we have Lib Dem Cllr David Clues. He has been living in Brighton since 8th December 2011. He has not been responding to emails, has no surgery in the ward, does not attend ward meetings such as Ward Panel with the local Police team, does not attend ward priority setting meetings, Ward working meetings where we have been fleshing out ideas as to what we want in Dudden Hill.

The question of attendance to Council meetings of Brent Liberal Democrat Councillors has also attracted widespread criticism in the past. Indeed recently, they’ve even developed a liberal approach to meetings and gone AWOL in the middle of meetings.

Another Brent Liberal Democrat Councillor is also rumoured to have moved out of Brent. If proven true, it will mean that nearly 20% of the Brent Liberal Democrat Group do not live in Brent.
