I find it terrible that two fire stations in Brent are under threat of closure – LINK
Last year a family in my ward were victims of a devastating blaze which rocked the community – LINK
One year later, we are hearing that fire stations are under threat in Brent. I believe that this will have a negative impact on response times for fire emergencies.
We are petitioning on the doorstep to campaign to maintain our fire emergency services.
An inquest is underway on the tragic Sonia Gardens fire.
Last year, a devastating incident occurred in Dudden Hill with the Sonia Gardens Fire.
Following the concerns that many residents were having, we finded the fire service with £2,053 to run a project specifically in Dudden Hill, distributing fire alarms and providing information.
All are welcome to attend the Willesden Area Consultative Forum which takes place on Tonight at the College of North West London, Denzil Road, NW10. Start time is 7pm prompt.
The meeting will be chaired by me. The main items on the agenda at this meeting are:
1 Willesden High Road improvements
2 Introduction of the new waste collection service
3 New structure of the Safer Neighbourhood Teams
4 Education standards in Brent
5 Community Infrastructure Levy – the levy allows local authorities to raise funds from developers undertaking new building projects in the local area.
I have also invited representatives from the fire brigade who will be available to talk to people during the break about fire safety. I felt this was important due to the tragic incident that happened in my ward last month in Sonia Gardens in Neasden, which is in my Ward.
There will also be a representative from the Willesden Sports Centre to talk to during the break.
I look forward to seeing you tonight.
Following the tragic incident in my ward on Saturday, the Fire Brigade has issued a statement saying that fire investigators believe that a chest freezer may have caused the fire.
Local people are still in shock over what has happened. Scenes at the Crest Academy were very emotional when I went over to meet with staff and the Principal to assist on matters from the Council’s side of things.
The London Fire Brigade has issued advice about fire safety on their website here: LINK
Thoughts and prayers are with all those affected.
